Many up and coming African developers create innovative software, but they do not know how to commercialise their products. At the same time they aren’t protecting their assets, as in some cases they are completely unaware of intellectual property laws. This is mainly due to the high fees required to obtain such specialist advice.
Starting in Kenya and then expanding to the rest of the continent, 4Afrika IP Hub aims to change this by giving developers the tools to monetise their apps. They also provide free online information on protecting intellectual property that developers can refer to. Finally the organisation provides platforms and access to networks to help them maximise their projects’ potential, thus helping to ensure products developed and made in Africa bring money into Africa.
