Social spaces that reconnect communities

The Friendly Bench™ CIC
United Kingdom (Bottesford)

The Friendly Bench™ are innovative outdoor social spaces designed to connect people to each other, places and with nature.

Specifically designed, The Friendly Bench™ are safe, easily accessible parklets situated within communities for people to meet, chat and connect.

The Friendly Bench™ are also active, social hubs where free activities and events are regularly held to encourage everyone to get involved and feel valued.

Every The Friendly Bench™, wherever they are based in the country, aims to reduce social isolation, increase community cohesion and help reconnect people back to their own community.

The Friendly Bench™ can positively improve a community’s quality of life.

Connecting people – An accessible social space, The Friendly Bench™ helps grow and strengthen people’s social networks with their wider community and improves health and wellbeing through friendship and is the focus for regular community events and activities.

Connecting places – Purposely designed, The Friendly Bench™ provides a convenient and comfortable place for those with limited mobility to rest, helping them to connect with local services and public places, whilst also encouraging independence and opportunities to participate in the wider community on their terms.

Connecting with nature – Enabling easy accessible interactions with nature, wildlife and the outdoors to help improve people’s physical health, mental well-being, social behaviour, self esteem and life satisfaction.

Every The Friendly Bench™ is owned, managed and run for the community by the community and supported by The Friendly Bench™ network. Social hubs, they bring people together and help build stronger communities, they are inclusive, accessible, connect a community, encourage cooperation and help build trust. They’re a people-led collaborative space that encourages a community to work together towards shared goals and objectives. They create a sense of place where everyone feels they belong and are valued.
